Stop Motion Animation

For this project we learned about the different methods of animation; Traditional Hand Drawn, Stop Motion, Claymation, and Rotoscoping. I decided to do a combination of Stop Motion and Claymation using felted objects, paper cut outs, and clay. I have been wanting to try my hand (pun intended) at creating a Stop Motion Animation short for a long time and I am so glad I was given the opportunity to make one this semester. Making this video was surprisingly easy for me. I spend a fair amount of time creating the felted hands, and thinking about the story line, but the shooting and putting together of images was a fun and fast process.

The story "Aphrodite's Handy Work" is a twist on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, taken from the Roman poet Ovid's "Metamorphoses". It depicts the sculptor Pygmalion falling in love with his statue (Galatea) and the goddess of love, Aphrodite, bringing the sculpture to life.
